Sujatno Koempoel (1912-1987) - Indonesian streetscene

Lovely painting of a bustling Indonesian street scene with carts with produce being pulled by oxen. By the acclaimed Indonesian artist Sujatno Koempoel (1912-1987). Good example of his work, master of fluidity bringing across the movement and atmosphere of time in Indonesia. Signed left-hand corner Koempoel , painting is in good order cleaned and re-varnished, and is without a frame. Sujatno Koempoel was born in 1912 in Paron Village, Ngawi, Indonesia. Koempoel's talent caught Van Staal's attention. He recommended Koempoel to the naturalist Gerard Pieter Adolfs, one of the proponents of the Beautiful Indie style. dr. Soerodjo was so impressed by Koempoel's works that he decided to sponsor Sujatno Koempoel.
