Rolex - Oyster perpetual semi Bubbleback rare reference - Beige patina Dial numerals - 4846 - Unisex - 1901-1949

HISTORY OF THE MODEL :
Rolex made a lot of different models of Bubblebacks (their first Oyster Perpetual models, from 1933-1955) and 4846 is one of the rarest ones. This one is particularly uncommon because of its "Certified Chronometer" text without the word "Officially." I like the pencil hands, too. This would be a classy vintage choice for a lady but 29.5mm is difficult for a man to pull off nowadays.
The 4846 was one of the later bubblebacks, introduced around 1946/47 and your watch dates from a year or so after the introduction.

The watch uses a cal automatic which was the classic "Bubbleback" movement, it will have either 16 or 18 jewels depending on the quality of movement used. Zell Brothers were a Rolex retailler in the north west of the US and in fact were one of the first importers of Rolex to the US, where they sold the watches as "Turtle Timers", eschewing the Oyster name.
