Our work was researched by European Consultant of the Catalogue Raisonné team of The De Laszlo Archive Trust Mr. Christopher Wentworth-Stanley and due to his helpfull opinion, this landscape said to be the early Laszlo work from his study travel to Paris ca. 1900. Additionally we found similar study of Versaille park by Paris, dated 1928, more later as our study (see additional photo from the auction by New Orleans Auctions Galleries, 22.May 1999), which can be valid as comparison base with our painting.. Mr. Ch.Weintwoth-Stanley confirmed also, that it is known completely little number of Laszlo landscapes from his French period , although the kind of the signature on our painting is completely identically to other Laszlo signatures on his early works, when he has marked his works with " Laszlo" in contrast to his later signatures " De Laszlo" , when he was ennobled by Austrian-Hungarian King Franz Joseph and his surname became "László de Lombos". Unfortunately , in " The Catalogue Raisonné" of The Laszlo Archive are there only a few landscapes paintings and this fact give us not enough material to comparison of our study of Tuillries ( see additional photos of his landscape works from the Cataloque Resonne). This is the reason , why we are selling this rare work as is, also only attributed to the hand of this renown portrait painter. Additionally we found only one similar study of Versaille park in Paris, dated 1928, more later as our study (see additional photo from the auction by New Orleans Auctions Galleries, 22.May 1999), which can be valid as comparison base with our painting.. Philip Alexius de Laszlo - very renown British portrait painter, 1869-1937. PHe was born in Budapest in 1869 as Laub Fülop Elek, the eldest son of a Jewish tailor. The family changed its name to László in 1891. As a young man, László apprenticed to a photographer while studying art, eventually earning a place at the National Academy of Art in Budapest , where he studied under Bertalan Székely and Károly Lotz , He followed this with studies in Munich and Paris. László´s portrait of the Pope Leo XIII earned him a Grand Gold Medal at the Paris International Exhibition in 1900. He lived in Budapest and Vienna until 1907, when he finally moved to London. He became a British citizen in 1914. De Laszlo died in London in 1937.He made a great reputation as a painter of the aristocracy and royalty on ´the Continent´ in the 1890´s and early 1900´s. He settled in England in 1907 and was considered by many to be the natural successor of Sargent, especially as Sargent began to withdraw from portrait-painting, and de Laszlo´s commissions grew. He was quite a prolific painter. It is not known, if de Laszlo knew Sargent, but surely they were brought into contact with one another in the art world. One way of to tie them together is through the critics´ agreement or disagreement that he was the natural successor to Sargent, as well as the fact that they did have some sitters in common - for example, Theodore Roosevelt, The Earl of Wemyss and March, Field Marshall Earl Roberts, the Duke and Duchess of Portland, Arthur Balfour, Margot Asquith, Mrs. Grace Elvina Duggan (later painted by Sargent when she was Marchioness Curzon of Kedelston), Lady Wernher, Lady Louis Mountbatten (nee Edwina Ashley - Sargent drew her portrait in charcoal as a child, and Laszlo painted her as a bride in 1922 and two years later as well). László´s patrons awarded him numerous honors and medals. In 1909 he was named an honorary Member of the Royal Victorian Order by King Edward Vii of the United Kingdom. In 1912 he was ennobled by Austrian-Hungarian King Franz Joseph , his surname became "László de Lombos". The family later shortened the name to "de László". László became a British citizen in 1914 but was interned for over twelve months in 1917 and 1918 during the First World War.

I'm sorry, but it's not my fault, the painting was packed well enough. The glass breakage was due to the careless handling of the package by the Portuguese post office.

Painting was well packed and exactly as described.

Seller's response

Be careful, professional extortionist! Having bought a beautiful oriental portrait from the 19th century in an original gold frame for €500, he found fault with minor delamination on the side of the frame, received a discount from Satavika and also tried to get some of the money back from me, instead of canceling the deal, as I suggested to him.

Verder alles perfect. Heel blij mee.

Glass protects the painting from dirt. If you decide to remove the glass, Inhope , it won't be a difficult job for you. Best regards

Very lovely painting, shipped quickly and well packed. The only thing is that the clips to attach the painting to the frame are broken! Now I have to figure out how to fix this.

Desculpe.

Ottimo venditore e stupendo acquisto! Grazie!
