-> Kopke 20 Years Old Port 1 x 0.75L
DESCRIPTION
In 1636, a journey took place between Hamburg and Portugal that would prove to be the root of a long story: Nicolau Köpke arrived in his new country as Consul General of the Hanseatic Cities. Two years later, in 1638, he signed the first bottles of wine sent to Northern Europe.
The purchase of a farm in Douro, in 1781, marks the transition from a purchasing company to a large wine producer. Port Wines are gaining importance in the company, quickly becoming the main business. Nicolau Kopke & Co. becomes an example of innovation, integrating wine production and trade in the same company.
In 1841, the firm assumed the name of C. N. Kopke, a name which remains as such to this day.
In the coming centuries, Kopke will strive to honor its legacy, which has been built with passion across generations.

WINE VARIETIES: Traditional Douro grape varieties.

VINIFICATION
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in vats (lagares) at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved. At this point, grape brandy is added to create the final fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged tawny Port wines. These wines have each matured in oak casks for varied periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the characteristics given by the ageing in wood.

TASTING NOTES
A delicate orange-green colour. Its splendid nose is a complex marriage of dried fruit, spice and notes of fine wood. On the palate, its flavours are rich and concentrated, with a long and velvety finish.

SERVING
Irresistible with a starter of foie gras with aubergine and walnuts. A great choice for an endless array of desserts, such as toffee brownies, chocolate and pistachio pavé, or crostini of walnuts with chèvre. Best served at a temperature between 12 and 14°C.

-> Cálem 20 Years Old Port 1 x 0.75L
DESCRIPTION
Some of his contemporaries may have mistaken António Alves Cálem for an incurable adventurer, but it was entrepreneurship that fuelled his passion. When he founded Porto Cálem in 1859, he set his sights on crossing the Atlantic and exporting to Brazil. This at a time when Port was typically shipped to the British Isles and other European markets. Beaten paths were not for Cálem. Once he eventually set route to Brazil, his first transactions were done in exotic woods. Again, this could have easily been misjudged as a bold decision when, in fact, it was a pondered risk that forwarded a very successful business relationship.
By 1965, Porto Calém’s reputation for fearlessness and grit had made its way around the world along its ships and crews. It was time for the image of the company to reflect that. Hence the iconic caravel being loaded with casks of Port was born, gracing every Calém bottle since.
The vision of a great man tends to inspire those around him, and so did the dream of António Alves Calém — for every generation of the family to come. Also in 1965, António Alves Calém Júnior picks up the mantle and officially becomes his father’s business partner and successor to be.
The generations that followed worked tirelessly to ensure worldwide recognition. In doing so, the brand amassed numerous awards for elegance, character, and quality in its wines. A century and a half into its journey, Porto Cálem truly represents the world of wine its founder envisioned.
When you offer Porto Cálem, you toast to the tradition of excellence.
