"Fred Herzog is known for his unusual use of color in the 1950s and 1960s, a time when art photography was almost exclusively associated with black and white imagery. The Canadian photographer worked almost exclusively with Kodachrome slide film for over 50 years, and only in the past decade has technology allowed him to make archival pigment prints that match the exceptional color and intensity of the Kodachrome slide. In this respect, his photographs can be seen as a pre-figuration of the New Color photographers of the seventies. This book will bring together over 230 images, many never before reproduced, and will feature essays by acclaimed authors David Campany and Hans-Michael Koetzle. Fred Herzog will be the most comprehensive publication on this important photographer to date."

Ecki Heuser & team are wishing ALL THE BEST TO YOU AND YOURS for 2025.
"After emigrating to Canada in the 1950s, Fred Herzog, born 1930 in Bad Friedrichshall, devoted himself to a medium that was rather unusual at the time: color photography. In doing so, he broke through the established viewing habits and doctrines that primarily gave black and white photography the status of art.
As a pioneer of color photography, he perfected the view for the supposedly irrelevant. His motifs are the streets of Vancouver, supermarkets, gas stations, bars, city scenes, landscapes and, again and again, the people around him - the ups and downs of the North American dream. He explores the potential of color photography as a medium of great objectivity as well as great artistry and shows with a critical eye the banal, the ephemeral and the seemingly insignificant. Above all, however, the color gives his photographs a unique mood and power and makes them appear authentic."
