The unique photographer Hajime Sawatari, who continues to search for fairies in the modern world, traveled to Alice’s homeland, England, to capture the timeless image of a girl living in a wonderland. Alice: A Girl is a fantastical photo book inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, reimagined through Sawatari’s distinctive lens.

The first edition was published in 1973, followed by a reprint in 1991. The book explores themes such as the loss of childhood innocence and the confrontation of a young girl with the realities of adulthood. Sawatari’s photographs weave a unique world where reality and fantasy intertwine, inviting viewers on a journey into a dreamlike realm.

The model, 10-year-old Samantha Gates, was selected through an audition held in England, Alice’s homeland. Her pure and ethereal presence breathes life into the fantastical world of Wonderland. The photographs, also taken in England, reflect the country’s landscapes and atmosphere, adding depth to the narrative.

Due to its artistic value, this book has long been sought after by collectors and photography enthusiasts. It is a rare and highly coveted masterpiece, with enduring acclaim and demand for further reprints.

The book's cover, front, and back have noticeable stains and discoloration due to aging. The edges of the pages also show signs of discoloration, but the photograph pages remain in good condition.
