19th century French symbolist School in the circle of Jean-Jacques Henner ( 1829 –1905 “ A nude Resting in a sylva landscape " Provenance: From a private Parisian collection Overall size with the frame is 61vm x 48cm x 6cm and the painting measuring 41cm x 28cm A superb 19th century French symbolist oil on canvas depicting a portrait of a young nude red haired girl resting in a sylvan landscape. The work is very close to the paintings of the same period by Jean Jacques Henner. It's inscirbed verso for Henner and executed on a canvas manufactured by Contet at their address in Rue Lafayette where they operated from 1868 until 1886 so we can very accurately date the painting to somewhere between these two dates. Jean-Jacques Henner ( 1829 –1905) was a French painter, noted for his use of sfumato and chiaroscuro in painting nudes, religious subjects and portraits. Highly acclaimed during his career Henner was a prolific artist who also taught a significant number of other important artists . We think the painting offered is most likely to have been painted by someone in the artists close circle and possibly by a student of the master and although their is an attribution to the painter on the verso we are not offering it as attributed to but rather in the circle of. Condition report : In good original unlined condition.
