A outstanding near eastern basalt altar with rectangular form and 4 legs. The top recessed to form a shallow basin, one side with two zoomorphic heads ( probably abstract bulls),representing important sacrificial animals . The vessel may have held offerings such as food, and portable altars such as this may have been home or private use to honor the gods and deceased.

Chalcolithic Period, Circa 3rd Millennium B.C.

Condition: Some earthy adhessions and surface wear. Chip to rim. Excellent state of preservation.
