View translationWW1 British lot of wartime published books - Biography Ambassador German Court, Western Front - Belgium, Ypres / Flanderns, Spy in Germany - 1915-1918
No. 91577003
Interesting lot of four British books published IN WW1 about the WW1;
(1) Behind the German Veil, 1917, a record of journalistic war pilgremage, by Beaufort, with 46 illustrations.
(2) The great push, 1916. When war broke out in 1914 MacGill joined the London Irish Rifles and saw active service. He was injured in the battle of Loos in 1915. Was married in the same year and on recovery returned to his regiment.This was one of several novels based on his experiences in the Great War. He also produced some excellent poetry chronicling the futility of this ‘war-to-end-wars,’ that stands with that of Wilfred Owen and Siegfried Sassoon.
(3) The soul of the war, 1917 by Giibs. Sir Philip Gibbs was amongst the five official British reporters serving during World War One. The Soul of the War is a first-hand account of the Great War and first instalment in a series which focuses on the first year of the war on the Western Front.
(4) My four years in Germany, A 1918 American silent war drama based on the experiences of real life U. S. Ambassador to Germany James W. Gerard as described in his book. The book was written during the height of World War I and is generally considered a prime example of war propaganda.
Overall a great christmas gift or addition for any WW1 enthusiast!
