RARITY
A single folio from a Quran dated 1575. Large form with leaf size 31x20cm and framed scripture 23x14, with commentary and a fine illuminated verse marking Juz in the right hand margin. The leaf contains scripture from the Meccan Chapter 24, An-Nur (The Light) v.41-47, which offers guidelines to believers on how they should react to false rumour against the Prophets wife. Specifically, verses 41-47 offer parables to God's power, the need to submit to God, the miracle of rain, creation and the judgement of hypocrites.
This is a beautifully illuminated leaf. The script is a crisp nashki in black. The whole script is surrounded by multiple frame lines, with a prominent thick gold frame in the middle. A fine arabesque Juz medallion in gold and celestial blue, sitting in the right margin, marks the 45th verse of Chapter 24. Multiple 'circular aya in gold with 5 equidistant blue dots on the circumference nark the verses within the scripture. Interestingly, there are no red diacritical (devotional markings) to provide guidance to the devotee.
