- Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was an Austrian symbolist painter, renowned for his highly decorative and often erotic style that fused Art Nouveau with Symbolism. He is most famous for his golden phase, which included iconic works like The Kiss (1907–1908), characterized by intricate patterns, lush ornamentation, and the use of gold leaf. Klimt's work often featured the female form, exploring themes of sensuality, life, and death, making him a controversial figure in his time. He was also a founding member of the Vienna Secession, an art movement that broke away from traditional academic art and embraced more modern, experimental approaches.
