Flight of Icarus" is a classic song by the legendary British heavy metal band Iron Maiden. It was released as a single in 1983 and is one of the standout tracks from their fourth studio album, "Piece of Mind".

The song is based on the Greek myth of Icarus, who, along with his father Daedalus, escaped imprisonment using wings made of feathers and wax. However, despite his father’s warnings, Icarus flew too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt and resulting in his fall into the sea.

Iron Maiden's version of the myth puts a unique spin on the story. In the lyrics, the focus shifts to themes of defiance, ambition, and betrayal. Bruce Dickinson, who co-wrote the song, emphasized how Icarus was encouraged to fly higher by his father, which can be interpreted as a critique of pushing someone too far, ultimately leading to their downfall.
