This nice steatite scarab amulet exhibits the characteristic features of a scarab, including a rounded body, folded wings, and a flat underside engraved with hieroglyphs. The amulet is pierced horizontally for suspension.
Scarabs served as powerful amulets and symbols of protection. The scarab beetle, associated with the sun god Ra, represented regeneration, transformation, and the cycle of life.
Size: 16mm x 11mm; Weight: 2g
Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
