【Product details】

This is a Heisei-era Noh mask by the artist Yoshio, crafted in 1997, featuring the serene face of a dōji (divine child). This style of mask is used to portray youthful, divine figures in Noh plays, such as the immortal boy in "Kikujidō" or the child associated with Monju Bosatsu in "Shakkyō."

This particular mask captures a nuanced expression, balancing the innocence of youth with an ethereal quality. While some schools, such as the Kanze, feature more stylized expressions for this character, this mask presents a subtle, intermediate look that conveys both purity and depth.

The artist’s signature, “Yoshio,” and the date (Autumn, Heisei 9) are inscribed on the inside of the mask, and Yoshio’s signature is also present on the reverse side of the original wooden box lid. The mask comes with a silk pouch for protection.

Some light wear and some stains are present due to age, and there is a small crack near the corner of the left eye. Please refer to the photos for details on the condition.
