Batman #171 is one of the most popular Silver Age issues in the run, the one that introduced the Riddler to the Silver Age of comics. Batman #171 also has one of the most striking and recognizable covers of the era, in part due to its wonderful background color. The popular villain known as the Riddler had only appeared twice prior to this 1965 issue, both times way back in 1948. In this issue, 17 years later, he was introduced to a new generation of comic book fans. Soon he would become one of the primary villains in the 1966 Batman TV series. Riddler has been a key part of Batman's Rogues Gallery ever since, and currently plays an important part on the hit live-action TV series, Gotham.
