Gorillas have a robust and muscular build. Adult males, known as silverbacks due to the silver-colored hair on their backs, are larger than females. They have a distinctive sagittal crest on their skulls, which is more prominent in males. They are primarily herbivorous and have a diet consisting of leaves, shoots, fruits, and some insects. They are adapted to life in the forest and spend a significant portion of their day foraging for food. Gorillas live in groups called troops or bands. A troop is typically led by a dominant adult male, the silverback, who is responsible for protecting the group. The troop also includes females and their offspring.
