【Product details】

This Showa-era Natsume tea caddy, crafted by the esteemed Maki-e artist Suzuki Unsei, features elegant black lacquer with a chrysanthemum and paulownia motif. The chrysanthemum, a symbol of longevity and imperial heritage, is highlighted in nashiji technique on the lid, lending a soft, golden shimmer to the design. Three paulownia leaves are depicted, with the middle leaf enhanced by a delicate mother-of-pearl inlay, adding an iridescent accent to the design. An additional chrysanthemum emblem is present on the side, emphasizing the noble theme of the piece. The side of the caddy is also decorated with a chrysanthemum emblem, further emphasizing its noble themes.

Maki-e is a traditional Japanese decorative technique in which gold or silver powder is sprinkled onto wet lacquer to form intricate designs. Nashiji, a variation of this method, uses gold or silver flecks to create a pear skin-like texture, imparting depth and luxury to the surface.

The original wooden box, bearing the artist's signature and stamp, accompanies the caddy.

Minor signs of wear include slight scuffs and a few tiny marks. Please refer to the photos for details on the condition.
