A Chinese Meissen style grisaille and gilt 'European subject' porcelain dish depicting pastor Petrus Boudaan (1666-1734). China, mid 18th century (c. 1740-45), Qing dynasty, early Qianlong (1736-1795, 乾隆) period. Made after a portrait of Petrus Boudaan by Frederik Ottens (1728 - 1775) preserved in Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Very rare plate in great condition!

Plate finely painted 'en grisaille', interior with a bust-length portrait of Peter Boudaan within a round panel, encircled with inscription: PETRUS BOUDAAN / Ecclesiastes Amstelodamensis and Boudan's family coat of arms. All within a narrow band of gilt spearheads followed by a border of gilt blossoms and foliate scrolls next to the rim. Exterior not decorated, nice finished V-shaped foot-rim in deep ivory colour.

Dimensions: diameter – 22,9 cm; height – 3,5 cm.

Provenance: private collection, Netherlands.
