Naturgeschichte des Tierreichs/Meyers Lexicon: 19 chromolithographic plates

9 Chromolithographic plates from Naturgeschichte des Tierreichs by Heinrich von Schubert (Münich, 1886).

In 1886 German naturalist Dr. Gotthilf Heinrich von Schubert, published his 3-part “Naturgeschichte des Tierreichs” (Natural history of the Animal Realm). The 3 parts were:
1. Naturgeschichte der Säugetiere (Mammals), with 159 plates.
2. Naturgeschichte der Vögel (Birds) with 195 plates
3. Naturgeschichte der Amphibien, Fische, Weich- und Schalenthiere, Insekten, Würmer und Strahlenthiere (Amphibians, fish, insekts and others), with 342 plates.

The plates here offered are all from part 2 (Birds). They differ from the original book in the way that the names of the birds are not mentioned. It couldn’t be determined from which edition these plates were taken.
The condition of the chromolithographic plates (42x32 cm) is very good. Since they were originally two-page pictures, there is a fold in the middle (see photos).
