No. 89978169
A LARGE SANDSTONE TORSO OF A FEMALE DEITY, ANGKOR WAT STYLE, ANGKOR PERIOD
Khmer Empire, first half of the 12th century. Standing in samabhanga, the unadorned figure, with prominent breasts and a beautifully rounded belly, wears a long, fluted sarong tied in front, the long central fold of which culminates elegantly in a fishtail hem, secured by a simple belt and a short bridle falling over the belt.
The Angkor Wat style harks back to the earlier styles of the Koh Ker and Pre Rup traditions of the 10th century, rather than to the preceding style of the Baphuon period
