François Pycke was a Belgian artist who was born in 1890 in Ghent and who died in 1960 also in Ghent. He was a painter as well as an etcher and sculptor. Training at the Academy in Ghent under the direction of Jean Delvin. Godecharle Prize in 1914. Realized portraits, figures, nudes, landscapes, cityscapes, still lifes, outdoor scenes. Loved big scenes, violent scenes, great lighting effects. From the press: “He dares to take on subjects that would scare or make anyone recoil, he has colors on his palette that make it tingle too, which no one can use like him. He just brushes on and brings everything to an amazing end. ” Traveled to the Netherlands, France, Italy, Sicily, Tunisia, Algeria, England. After traveling through Spain and Morocco, he turned out to be an orientalist. His latest works mainly depict garden views with figures, city views, nudes. Opted for a luminist style characterized by an extremely colorful palette, sometimes reminiscent of Fauvism. Worked in generous paint paste. Work in the Museum in Ghent.
