- Henri Matisse (1869-1954) was a French painter, recognized as one of the great artists of the 20th century alongside Pablo Picasso. Born in Cateau Cambrésis, Matisse began painting during a convalescence in 1890 and decided to become a visual artist, despite the opposition of his parents. He studied at the Julian School and the School of Fine Arts in Paris, where he received classes from the symbolist painter Gustave Moreau.

Matisse is known for his innovative use of color and form in his paintings, sculptures, and drawings. He was one of the leaders of the Fauvist movement, characterized by the use of pure colors and a representation of the violence of emotions. His work is based on simplification, stylization, and synthesis.

As for the valuation of his works, purchase prices range between 150,000 and 300,000 euros for a Matisse painting at the dawn of Fauvism, while Fauvist canvases and Orientalist portraits from the 20s and 30s reach prices between 1 and 5 million euros.

One of his notable works is “Nu Rose” (Pink Nude) created in 1935. This luminous portrait is part of the respected collection of the Baltimore Museum of Art. The composition presents a figure lying on what appears to be blue tiled furniture, with a checkered pattern. The figure is painted in a single shade of pink, with the head too small for the body. This painting is a testament to Matisse’s unique decorative approach and his mastery of color.

Artists of similar importance: Picasso, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Warhol, Banksy, Brainwash, Delaunay, Nara, Soulages, Lagasse, Ramos, Coa, Dior, Vuitton, Lautrec, Klimt, Basquiat, Hirst, Chagall, Koons, Haring, Indiana, Mondrian, Groening, Richter, Monroe, Herrera, Laurent, Klein, Kusama, Murakami, Testa, Villemot, Oldenburg, Hopper, Ripolles, Wesselmann, Magritte, Jenk, Orlinski, Wille, Rizzi, Manara, Thiebaud, Kaws, Valentino, Cappiello, Rothko, Dalí, among others.

Seller's response

I´m saddened that you are not satisfied with your purchase. The lot, which you received in just three days in your country, is faithful to the description and images that were published during the auction and comes from a renowned art publisher. Honestly, your review is unfair, I don't understand why you haven't contacted me to request a return and refund if you are not satisfied with your purchase.

Thank you for the picture in perfect condition. It arrived well and rather fast.
