Ancient Roman solid silver statue of Jupiter (Phrygian Sabazios) wearing a beautifully sculpted toga and holding an offering patera. The statue is fixed on a jasper column base.

This statuette likely served as a votive object in a Roman domestic shrine or religious sanctuary. Roman statues in silver are extremely rare.

Height: ± 42,7 mm (statue without base)
Width: ± 20 mm (statue)
Height base: ± 42,6 mm

A Toga - a distinctive garment of Ancient Rome. A semi-circular cloth draped over the shoulders and around the body

Condition: good solid condition, fixed on jasper column base. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).

JUPITER (Zeus in Greek Mythology): principal deity of the Greeks and Romans. God of the heavens, sky and thunder and king of the gods. His identifying implement is the thunderbolt and his primary sacred animal is the eagle, which became one of the most common symbols of the Roman army (Aquila).

The Romans believed that Jupiter granted them supremacy and he personified the divine authority of Rome's highest offices. The consuls swore their oaths of office in Jupiter's name and honoured him by sacrificing a white ox with gilded horns. Triumphal generals surrendered the tokens of their victory at the feet of Jupiter's statue in the Capitol.

nice piece. Just a bit sad that it does not come with any info on the provenance. "Gallery/Antique dealer" is just not helpful.
