Japanese Edo Period Jingasa 陣笠
This is the most beautiful of the dozens of jingasa I have handled.
Jingasa is a hat worn by foot soldiers and miscellaneous soldiers during the Sengoku period in place of a helmet during battle.
It is a very delicately carved wooden jingasa with a urushi lacquer finish.
