A nice 18th to 19th century Edo period Freshwater Jar (Mizusashi) for tea ceremonies (probably Arita kilns), decorated near the top with cranes flying through clouds in underglaze blue.

In Japan, the crane is one of the mystical or holy creatures (others include the dragon and the tortoise) and symbolizes good fortune and longevity because of its fabled life span of a thousand years.

The water container, known as the mizusashi, stores the pure water used to rinse the teabowl and fill the kettle for boiling water during the preparation of whipped tea. Due to its essential function and noticeable size, the mizusashi is one of the most prominent and valued objects in the tea ceremony.

The vase comes with a inscribed tomobako wooden collectors box and a lacquer cover.

Dimensions:
H18 x W17 cm

Condition:
Good condition! One 2 cm hairline in the mouth, small scratches and some glaze imperfections throughout.

Checked with strong UV light for defects.

Shipping method: The item is securely packed and shipped with insurance or miniature vase.

Parfait, mais j'aurais aimé avoir un coffret d'emballage pour cette belle théière. Je m'interroge sur la véritable datation de cette théière. quel est le thé qui a été utilisé avec cette théière ?
