Trefoil lip, frontally decorated with a standing man in the nude, holding a staff on one hand and a himation on the other, dots, heart and foliage fillers, framed inside a thick line red-ware square. Literature: perhaps related to the vases listed in A. Trendall and A. Cambitoglou, The Red-Figured Vases of Apulia, Oxford, 1978, chapters 20-21, 'The minor vases of the workshop of the Darius and Underworld Painters'; compare ibid. vol. 2, pl. 237:8. Size: 15 cm H - 5 15/16 inches Material: Terracotta Culture: South Italy, c. 4th Century B.C. Condition: Intact Provenance: Dr Alfred Scharf (1900-1965) collection and thence by descent to the present owner. Ex. Bonham’s auction.
