“I paint what scares me.” HR Giger
HR Giger first became known in the 1960s for his airbrush fantasy landscapes. He later had his breakthrough in applied art, particularly with his work for famous filmmakers. His design for Ridley Scott's Alien earned Giger an Oscar for Best Visual Effects. His album covers for Debbie Harry and Emerson, Lake and Palmer were voted among the top one hundred in all of music history by music journalists, while furniture designed by Giger adorns bars in Tokyo and Chur, Switzerland.
This limited edition was designed by the artist himself and contains detailed commentaries in which Giger describes his work from the early 60s to the late 90s.
The artist
HR Giger (1940-2014) was a Swiss painter, sculptor and set designer who fused surrealist influences and dark fantasies to create his own biomechanical universe. He first gained recognition in the 1960s for his fantasy depictions of post-apocalyptic creatures and landscapes using the airbrush technique, and became famous for his well-known film works, most notably his creation of the “Alien” for the film of the same name, which won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
