A Pelta is a small light shield, used by the Greek and Roman troops. The most easily identifiable attribute that is associated with the Amazons is the pelta, also called the Amazon shield.
The shield has an elliptical or crescent-shaped form. Pelta-shaped motifs are frequent decorations in mosaics, dress accessories, fixtures etc.
During the Roman Empire, the pelta shape was often used as a belt buckle, brooch or pendant, especially by the warlike Romans.
