SIGNED; Andre Gelpke - Fluchtgedanken (FIRST BOOK) - 1983

BRILLIANT FIRST BOOK by the well-known German photographer André Gelpke. Bodly signed by the artist. I GUARANTEE THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE SIGNATURE. André Gelpke was pupil of Otto Steinert and is one of most important German post-war photographers. MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION. Welcome to the ONE-SELLER-AUCTION by Ecki Heuser, 5Uhr30.com (Cologne, Germany) on Catawiki - this time presenting a BEST-OF „GERMAN PHOTOBOOKS“. Like always we guarantee detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance and of course combined shipping - worldwide. André Gelpke (German, born 1947) studied photography with Otto Steinert at the Folkwang School in Essen between 1969 and 1974. Already in 1974, Gelpke was featured in an early solo exhibition at Galerie Lichtropfen in Aachen, later to become Galerie Kicken. In the year after obtaining his diploma, Gelpke co-founded the Visum photo agency. Next to Heinrich Riebesehl and Michael Schmidt, Gelpke can be considered one of the pioneers of art photography in West-Germany at the time. Gelpke’s photographs have been featured in numerous solo exhibitions at large museums, such as the Museum Folkwang, Essen, the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris, and at the Sprengel Museum, Hanover, among others. Between 1990 and 2012 he was professor for photography at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (Zurich University of the Arts). He continues to live and work in Zurich. Mahnert-Lueg. 1983. First edition, first printing. Softcover with jacket (as issued; there was never a hardcover edition published). 242 x 280 mm. 88 pages with photos in black and white. Text in German. Condition: Inside excellent, fresh and flawless; clean with no marks and with no foxing. Dustjacket a bit used and yellowed. Overall fine condition. Important German photobook of the 80ties - signed by the artist. André Gelpke is beside Bernd (Bernhard) und Hilla Becher ("Anonyme Skulpturen"), Michael Schmidt ("Waffenruhe"), Otto Steinert ("Subjektive Fotografie"), Heinrich Riebesehl ("Agrarlandschaften"), Wilhelm Schürmann ("Fotografien"), Andreas Gursky ("Montparnasse"), Thomas Struth ("Museum Photographs") und Axel Hütte ("London") one of the best and most important german post-war photographers.
