Ancient Egyptian Faience Taweret Amulet
Circa 664-332 BC - Late Period
This amulet, crafted from faience, represents the ancient Egyptian deity Taweret. It features a simplified form and is perforated through the head.
Taweret was a protective goddess associated with fertility and childbirth, often depicted as a composite creature with the head of a hippopotamus, the limbs of a lion, and the tail of a crocodile.
Dimensions: 32mm x 16mm; weight 3g
Provenance: From the collection of a London gentleman; formerly acquired in early 2000s; previously in 1970s UK collection.
