【Product details】
These two tea ceremony sets by skilled Mino ware artist Kato Goto, each in its original paper box, showcase his mastery of traditional Japanese ceramic techniques.
The first set features four charming thin tea caddies, each crafted using different glazing techniques: Seto, Oribe, Shino, and Ki-Seto. The set includes a water dropper (Suiteki) designed for adding water to an inkstone, with a spout and handle; an oil dropper (Yuteki) for lanterns, with a small spout on the shoulder; a handled pot (Tegame) used for drawing water, with a handle extending from the shoulder to the body; and a caddy with a semicircular handle over the mouth (Tsurutsuki). All four pieces bear the artist's signature.
The second set consists of seven types of lid rests inspired by those selected by the tea master Sen no Rikyu. The pieces include the highest-ranked Hioke, also used as an incense burner; Gotoku, the second highest-ranked, marked with "Goto" 五陶 on the base; Ikkanjin, depicting a figure peering into a well; Sazae, shaped like a turban shell; Sanningyo, featuring three children holding hands; Kani, in the form of a crab; and Mitsuba, with a three-leaf design.
The Suiteki and Tegame in the tea caddy set have slight stains on their bottoms, while the other pieces are in excellent condition with minor sings of use. Please refer to the photos for a detailed view of each item's condition. These sets by Kato Goto are valuable additions for collectors and enthusiasts of Japanese tea ceremonies.
