A finely cast Luristan bronze dagger, featuring a narrow leaf-shaped blade with a wide, flattened mid-rib. The hilt features a decorative shape, curving inwards from the hilt before a tapered grip and a flared base. The high sides would have originally accommodated an inlay of wood or bone. A beautiful dark green patination and earthly encrustations feature to the surface. Sign of wear as consistent with its age, such as scratches and chips to the edges of the blade and flanges. There is a horizontal bend in the blade near the centre.

Luristan bronze comes from the province of Lorestan, renowned in antiquity for its sophisticated metal working techniques. Due to the nomadic nature of the populations that settled in the area, none of the Luristan bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable. Flanged dirks, swords and daggers were made from one piece of metal, the blade and the grip cast together. The grip would then have been decorated with an inlay, typically bone, limestone or wood. Due to limited numbers surviving with inlays intact, it would seem the majority were made from wood, susceptible to erosion.

Measurements: L 31.5cm x W 3.2cm

Unfortunately from UK to Italy clearance fees and bureaucracy made the price totally inappropriate and the procedute too heavy.

Beautiful items and perfect package; very professional service, but, unfortunately, Brexit makes clearance fees too high and customs bureaucracy too heavy.
