【Important notes】

・International Buyers: Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility.
・Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These duties are paid to your country's customs office and not to us. Prompt payment of these fees is necessary to ensure delivery of your item.
・We deeply value your understanding regarding the blade's export process. The duration to secure an export permit might extend up to a month, and shipping, based on the destination, could take an additional month. In some instances, sea freight may be chosen, which might lengthen the delivery period to 2-3 months.
・Considering the diligence required for export permit procedures, we'd like to emphasize the importance of commitment after purchase. If the auction is annulled post-confirmation, there's a need to retract the said permit. In such situations, to cover administrative efforts, a fee equating to 10% of the auction's final amount would be requested via PayPal.
・We kindly request bids from those who fully acknowledge these conditions. Please be informed that the original registration document is required to be returned to official authorities, so a copy will be provided with the sword.
・Austria, Belgium, and UK prohibits the import of swords, so please refrain from bidding.

【Product details】

This exceptional wakizashi from the Edo period is a masterpiece of traditional Japanese craftsmanship, complete with intricate mountings and individually certified as especially valuable (Tokubetsu Kicho) by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK). Both the sword and its mountings have received separate certificates of authenticity, affirming their historical and artistic significance.

The wakizashi includes a striking koshirae, the sword mountings are a highlight, featuring a scabbard (saya) finished in black lacquer and adorned with shakudo nanako, a fine-textured blackened copper decorated with raised patterns of bamboo and sparrows, symbolizing protection and good fortune. The menuki (ornamental fittings on the handle) display chrysanthemum motifs in shakudo nanako, representing longevity and rejuvenation, while the circular iron tsuba (sword guard) includes openwork of family crests with brass inlays, enhancing its aesthetic and historical value.

This sword comes with a copy of its Firearms and Swords Registration Certificate, as the original document has been returned to the authorities. The certificate, numbered 54840 and issued in Shizuoka Prefecture on July 20, Showa 52 (1977), categorizes the sword as a wakizashi with a length of 34.3 cm, a curvature of 0.7 cm, and one peg hole. The blade is unsigned.

Please note the wakizashi displays some signs of age, such as some rust on the blade and slight wear and rust on the fittings and tsuba, which are thoroughly documented in the photographs provided. The sword does not include the display stand shown.

Length of the blade: 46 cm
Total length including mountings: 53.5 cm
