William Frohawk: 8 chromolithographic prints from Butler-Foreign Finches in Captivity (London 1899)

Arthur G. Butler (1844-1925) was an entomologist at the British Museum where he worked on the taxonomy of birds, insects and spiders. He also was one of Britain’s most prolific authors on Bird keeping. On this subject he wrote Foreign Finches in Captivity (Londen 1899).
Butler has worked with bird artist William Frohawk (1861-1949) on previous publications and he asked him to make the 60 illustrations for “Foreign Birds”.

The 8 plates here offered are:

1. Spice Bird (Munia punctulate)
2. Melodious or Cuba Finch (Phonipara Canora)
3. Cordon Bleu (Estrilda phoenicotis)
4. Bengalee (Aidemosyne malabarica + Uroloncha striata)
5. Zebra Finch (Taeniopygia castanotis)
6. White-throated Finch (Spermophila albigularis) & Bluish Fich (Sp. Coerulescens)
7. Black-headed Siskin (Chrysomitris icteria)
8. Orange Weaver (Pyromelana franciscana)

All Prints (27x17 cm) are in excellent condition and all set in an white cardboard Passe-partout.
