Cos d'Estournel 2nd Grand Cru Classé 2021
The vintage

A Grand Cru Classé from 1855 located in the Médoc appellation of Saint-Estèphe, Cos d'Etournel produces a wine renowned for being the archetype of a virile and elegant nectar at the same time. It actually reveals a powerful fruitiness and a superb body from its youth, slowly evolving towards an admirable aromatic complexity. The Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot that make it up come from vines that are around thirty years old and that flourish on grassy slopes with lean gravel soils for the Cabernets and limestone for the Merlot.
After a carefully sorted harvest, the winemaking process in the winery (redesigned in the 2000s) is carried out by gravity. Temperatures are strictly controlled and the wine is aged in new oak barrels for 18 months.
We recommend that you keep this wine in the cellar for a long time (up to thirty years) and enjoy it with characterful dishes.
The Cos d'Estournel estate

The Château de Cos d'Estournel was built at the beginning of the 19th century by Louis-Gaspard d'Estournel. Nicknamed "the Maharajah of Saint-Estèphe" for his love of travel, particularly to the Indies, he had exotic pagodas built above his cellars, in homage to his far-off conquests. Very quickly, the wine from the estate rose to the level of the finest Bordeaux vintages, was exported as far as the Indies and reached the rank of 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855. Today, the prestigious vineyard belongs to Michel Reybier and extends over 67 hectares. Bordered by the Gironde to the East and the Atlantic Ocean to the West, it benefits from a microclimate that acts as a temperature regulator. In old Gascon, "Cos" means "hill of pebbles", a name justified by the geological particularity of the terroir: Quaternary gravel has piled up, forming a hill about twenty meters high at the top of which the château superbly dominates the river. Only grapes from vines over 20 years old are used in the Cos d'Estournel wine, with the rest of the harvest being used for the second wine. Working mainly by hand, the estate uses new oak for aging, which subtly highlights the aromas with just the right amount of wood. Finally, a final selection limits annual production to between 200,000 and 380,000 bottles.

Objet arrivé endommagé et la seule réponse du vendeur a été de me proposer la livraison de trois bouteilles dont je n'avais pas besoin. Demandé à nouveau un nouveau coffret et plus aucune réponse !
