An intriguing rectangular patinated bronze suiban 水盤 (shallow ikebana bowl) showcasing a design in relief of sinuous dragons above a meander pattern. It is adorned with a pair of handles, each shaped like stylized elephants, and is supported by four elegantly crafted feet, each resembling flowers.
The underside with a 4-character seal: 大明宣德. A mark known by many as a Chinese Xuande mark, but now on a Japanese item often associated with the Meiji period.
Period: Japan – Meiji period (1868-1912).
