Sir Daniel Macnee FRSE, PRSA (Scottish 1806-1882) Title : A very large XIX and wonderfully decorative full - length portrait of a young child in period attire with lakeside background Record sale at auction for the artist is $28,123 Medium : Oil on canvas Provenance: From a private London collector and signed lower right hand side. Overall size 136 cm x 110 cm x 4 cm and the painting itself measures at sight is 123 cm x 96 cm . Condition report . The painting is in excellent condition for its age and has had some well blended professional restoration in its history and has been lined and is ready to hang . There areas of light craquelure The frame is from the 2O th and is offered as a gift . Sir Daniel Macnee was a leading Scottish portrait He studied under portraitist and landscapist . Macnee continued his studies at the Trustees’ Academy and in 1829 was admitted to the Royal Scottish Academy. Macnee eventually returned to Glasgow, where he established a flourishing portrait studio. His sitters included wealthy merchants, pioneering industrialists, aristocrats and even Queen Victoria. In 1876 he returned to Edinburgh and was elected President of the Royal Scottish Academy and was knighted. The painting being offered is a beautiful example of the painters work and is highly tactile. The colours are still excellent and the tonality is lovely . Please note : The frame that is included in the pictures above has been added to the artwork by a third party/the seller, as such it’s not an integral part of the object. The frame is being provided to you at no additional costs so that when your artwork arrives at your house you can immediately display it on your wall. As such any damages to the frame itself, that do not affect the integrity of the artwork, cannot be accepted as a valid reason to open a claim or request a cancellation.
