A lifetime publication of the famous Russian teacher V. I. Vodovozov. "Stories from Russian History" is a collection of historical documents with prefaces and comments by Vodovozov.

Vasily Ivanovich Vodovozov (1825-1886) - Russian teacher, translator, children's writer; husband of the writer and teacher E. N. Vodovozova. He is the author of over 120 works: translations, articles on pedagogy, essays on schools in European countries, critical articles, works for children. In literary critical articles and works on the methodology of teaching literature, he made the artistic significance of a work dependent on its social and moral meaning. V. I. Vodovozov is known as the author of popular books for children. "Stories from Russian History" (issues 1-2, St. Petersburg, 1861-1864) is a collection of historical documents with prefaces or comments by Vodovozov. "A Book for Initial Reading in Public Schools" (part 1, St. Petersburg, 1871; 18th edition 1887) and its teaching aid "A Book for Teachers" (St. Petersburg, 1871; 5th edition, 1879) were awarded the Ushinsky Prize. Author and compiler of the books Children's Stories and Poems (St. Petersburg, 1871, 1876), New Russian Literature (From Zhukovsky to Gogol inclusive) (St. Petersburg, 1866; 7th edition, 1908), Ancient Russian Literature. From the Beginning of Literacy to Lomonosov (St. Petersburg, 1872), Russian Fairy Tales in Verse (St. Petersburg, 1883).
