A Luristan bronze axehead featuring a short socketed shaft and a plain blade, which broadens towards a curved cutting edge. The socket is further enriched by vertical indentations circling the cylindrical shaft, a flanged bottom, and a central midrib running down the shaft. A beautiful blue-green patina and earthly encrustations to the surface. Signs of wear as consistent with age, such as chips and cracks to the socket and blade. There are large chips missing from the edges of the shaft, and a smaller chip to the bottom of the blade. There is bright yellow material, possibly paint, on one side of the blade.

Unadorned weapons, especially axes, adzes and picks, were made by Luristan craftsmen using simple clay or stone bivalve moulds, into which was inserted a core to form the socket for the shaft. Typically, the metallic composition consisted of a combination of arsenical bronze and copper, together with a small percentage of lead. Due to the nomadic nature of the tribes, none of the Luristan bronzes were of great size, since it was required for them to be light and portable.

Measurements: (circa) L 9.9cm x W 5.3cm

Provenance: Ex. London Collection, formed between 1990 - present.

Produsul este foarte bun, la fel si pretul de achixitie. In schimb fotmalitatile vamale in Romania sunt complicate.

The item arrived after a short time, and was packed very good, with a little box to the item itself. Very good experience with the seller.

Everything was ok with the Roman collar. It was a present and my friend was delightful with it. The only thing is the IMPORT TAXES from UK to Spain. This affected to final price and the delivery time.
