No. 88229609
Due to custom regulations we can not ship outside the E.U. Please make sure you have an EU shipping address before bidding.
Pendant with a rare large size amber / honey coloured glass bead from the Viking period. The authentic ancient bead is wire-wrapped with a handmade bail to allow it being worn as a pendant.
Diameter bead: ± 23,9 mm
Thickness bead: ± 14,9 mm
The wire wrapping technique dates back from ca. 2000 BC and was a favourite technique of jewellery makers of ancient civilizations.
Condition: good condition and wearable. The ancient bead is made wearable as a pendant and is strung on a modern jewellery cord. Signs of wear consistent with age and use. See images.
Certificate of Authenticity available upon request (pdf-document).
Amber was a very expensive and highly appreciated commodity in the Roman period. The Amber Road transported the 'gold of the north' for thousands of years from the North Sea and the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean area.
By adding iron-sulphur during the glass-making process the glassmakers succeeded in imitating this highly appreciated colour in glass.
