Seller's Story

Ivan Pili Ivan Pili is a figurative artist born in Cagliari in 1976. His artistic vocation is a realism and hyperrealism that goes beyond the pure representation of reality immediately visible to the eye. From music to painting From an early age, Ivan Pili showed his interest in various arts. He was often caught secretly drawing during class hours in various school classes or on the occasion of some outings with friends and relatives. He then discovered his propensity for music quite by chance and quickly began to try his hand at this sector until he established himself as an internationally renowned musician. In 2015 the watershed episode takes place: after being involved, in a completely casual way, in the creation of a wall painting in Germany and after a serious health problem, Pili abandons music and turns his attention in a disruptive way towards the arts visual. His first subjects were simple but elegant: scenes of everyday life that had something biographical, various memories of his life, on which he began to build his artistic career. Expressive power: lights and shadows The subjects, always remaining within the figurative, are different and always projected by variable amounts of light. His work evokes a minimalist scenographic essence and a disarming expressiveness. It was immediately evident, however, that it was not a simple divergence from the pictorial rule: Pili began to extract the final form from the canvas, almost as if his works were sculptures, taking on their own appearance which, rather than resembling the imagined subject, evoked him by affinity. It's a beautifully painted celebration of form rather than color. You have to get very close to his art to discover that it does not come from the camera but from the desire for proportions, for the essential that can be seen with the eyes, in a very scrupulous way dedicated to proportions, to the smallest details that are almost always not immediately visible. "His" two colours, black and white, are "the edges" of the chromatic circle: white contains all the colors and recalls the idea of fusion; black is instead the absence of color and should therefore be connected to the idea of emptiness, darkness, detachment. But not in Ivan Pili's paintings, since it is black that is placed in the foreground, also overturning the typical canons of photography: in his paintings the shadow dominates, while the light is "simply" a support.
