Dogon lock - Mali

Dogon lock complete with key. which seems to be rather rare.Two nested parts: vertical, the trunk and horizont, the crossbar. Ingeniously locked on the backside with pins. (see backside) To unlock one needs a key with corresponding pins.
Handcarves with symbolic signs. This lock also symbolizes the union of two people. This lock will be transferred from mother to daughter.
The Bambara were established in the central and south of Mali.
The lock is a beautiful example of how locks work. It is beautiful and functional especially by its simplicity. The cotton string tells a story in itself. The pins are hand forged.
