The Bembe are a Kongo ethnic group from the south of the Democratic Republic of Congo.Some groups are also present in northern Angola and northwestern DRC, Thies small statuettes represent ancestors and they have body and abdominal scarifications carved on them and usually have glass inserts for eyes to enhance their piercing gaze.
This finely carved statuette is of a sitting female figure with an elaborate three ridged coiffure.
