Gold Maki-e Tea Caddy with Chestnuts Design - Gold-plated, Wood, Lacquer - Nakajima Koichi 中島弘一 - Japan - Heisei period (1989-present) This is a beautiful natsume adorned with luxurious gold maki-e designs of a chestnut tree. The raised gold parts of the chestnuts create a sense of depth, and the intricate brushwork on the chestnut spines and leaf veins particularly enhances the luxurious feel. The interior features "Nashiji" lacquer, which is found only in high-end natsume. (Nashiji lacquer: a technique where gold powder is sprinkled onto a flat lacquered surface, covered with a transparent lacquer, and then polished to reveal the gold or silver underneath. It is called Nashiji because its appearance resembles the surface of a pear.) The artist, Nakajima Koichi, is a master craftsman who has also created maki-e inkstone boxes for the Japanese Imperial Family. Dimensions : 7 × 6.7 × 6.7 cm Weight : 55 g Good condition.
