Ancient Egypt, New Kingdom Silver Teardop-shaped Amulet (No Reserve Price)
A delicate ancient Egyptian silver amulet, formed into a teardrop shape. It features a spherical body topped by a cylindrical cap with a soldered loop terminal for suspension. THe silver is now tarnished and the amulet features minor scratches to the surface.
Amulets were popular in Ancient Egypt, and were worn by the living or buried with the dead. The common word for amulet in the dynastic period was ‘mkt’, which means protector, amulets were designed to protect their owners. Teardrop beads such as these would have typically been used as further embellishment with necklaces or bracelets, especially broad collars.
