Celadon vase - Porcelain - 諏訪蘇山Suwa Sozan III (1932-1994) - Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989)

A beautiful celadon vase. In the center is "福如東海 寿比南山". The meaning is... Happiness flows forever like the water flowing into the 東海East Sea, and longevity never grows old like the pine trees growing on 南山Mount nanshan. It's a Chinese auspicious phrase. Simply put, "I wish you happiness." 諏訪蘇山Suwa Sozan III (1932-2005) was born in Kyoto as a second son of ceramic artist Yonezawa Soho. He graduated from Kyoto Art University. Studied under Tomimoto Kenkichi and Kondo Yuzo, and was transferred to the Imperial Household artist Suwa Sozan in 1960. In 1970, he received the name of Sosan III. Many of his works were awarded with prizes and exhibitions both internationally and domestically. Suwa Sozan was a member of Nitten (also he has been awarded many times at Nitten) and served as juror for the Kyoto City Exhibition. He mainly worked with celadon. There are some small scratches on the body. (5th and 7th images) Size Width approx. 9.5cm Height approx. 20cm
