A very RARE and interesting book!!! "Instructions for taking meteorological observations; with tables for their correction, and notes on meteorological phenomena". A useful and impressively illustrated manual on meteorological instruments by Colonel Sir Henry James (1803-77) of the Royal Engineers. Illustrated instruments are: hydrometer, marine barometers, ozone test apparatus, improved anemometer, rain gauges, Regnault's improved thermometer, Daniell's hygrometer, maximum/minimum thermometers, standard thermometer, and barometers. Many of these are signed by Casella, London. Published in 1861 by George E. Eyre and William Spottiswoode, London. With an engraved frontispiece and 21 hand-coloured plates (three folding). Bound with: Table for the reduction of the meteorological observations taken at the stations of the royal engineers.. Plates in good condition with light stains and foxing, pages with light stains but overall good condition for age-see photos. Large folding plans in good condition with light wear only and light repair on margin. Original green cloth with publisher's ad for James' works mounted on the front pastedown. Library stamp on title page and ffe only. Externally light wear edges and corners, not original spine with some losses-see photos
