Go Go Koinobori (Girl) - Limited Edition 105/251 & Hand-Signed - Kunio Kaneko 金子邦夫 (b 1949) - Japan

On offer is a print called Go Go Koinobori (Girl) by Mr. Kunio Kaneko. In Japan, the red color symbolizes a girl or woman. (FYI, for a boy or man, blue is used.) At first glance you may think this is a karp (koi) displayed in the picture. Actually, this is an image of a windsock in the shape of a karp. Families fly giant carp windsocks, called koinobori, on flagpoles next to their homes from April to early May. The holiday apparently comes from an ancient Chinese story about carp, which swam up a waterfall and turned into dragons. The carp, or koi in Japanese, became symbols of perseverance. This print has never been framed and has always been stored in a dark place. It is in excellent condition.
