Hunting scene with dogs and wild boar was executed by listed French painter Engler ( died in 1878). In Museum to Clamecy are his 2 paintings (cataloque of 1889, No.6 and 7); several his hunting and dog were sold in auctions in 1882 and 1883. His works estate was sold in Paris in 1878. Literature: artist lexicons by Thieme/Becker (in German) and Bénézit (in French). Inscription: signed lower right. Technique: oil on canvas, luxuriousy original period gilt frame. Measurements: unframed w 18 1/4" x h 13 1/8" (46,5 x 33,5 cm), framed 28 1/2" x 22 2/3" (72,5 x 57,5 cm). Condition: very good.
