Panasonic AG-4700 EY Professional S VHS recorder Professional player/recorder, little used in a small studio, in very good condition Panasonic has produced many great (S)VHS recorders over the years, of which the AG-4700EY may be one of the the most well-known professional models. This richly equipped S VHS machine is capable of assuring optimal image quality both in recording and playback. In its early days it was widely used as a ‘master’ recorder, nowadays it’s a very interesting option for digitizing video tape, as it gets everything out of a tape, even if the recorder that produced it had an issue that made the tape play badly in other machines. One of the relevant main features is a Time Base Corrector, another is very precise variable tracking, which can be operated with the remote control. It further features high quality audio (with a dynamic range over 90 dB) and a variable picture sharpness that works amazingly well. The 4 heads Panasonic AG-4700 is a very solidly built machine weighing about 7 kgs, made in Japan of course; although it hasn’t been active for some years, everything still worked like a charm when I tested it. I would advise though to have the video heads cleaned, maybe some rubber parts as well. The date of manufacture most likely is around the year 2000. A friend of mine bought it new for his studio, but switched to digital when it came on the market. I bought the machine from him as I was looking for a new VCR, but hardly used it after buying a DVD player and -recorder. This AG 4700 (with serial no. H7KD00037) shows clear signs of use, but is 100% technically. I’m sure this player/recorder will last a lot of years to come. It comes with a remote control (with fresh batteries) and a mains cable.
